I suppose as good a first blog entry as any is why I am banned from Twitter. Sorry. X.
A little background first:
When I first joined Twitter, I immediately dove into the write crowd. I participated in numerous conversations with other writers. I followed literary agents. I even got to have little chats with Grimm creator, Stephen Carpenter. Seriously, what a guy @creator_grimm.
I made some new creative friends, posted a bit about politics but mostly about writing, and I learned a lot about the business of querying. Sometimes I wonder what post-Elon Twitter looks like and how I’d be faring on it in the current climate. Mostly, I am bitter for losing that community.
I am grapefruit-level bitter for how it happened.
What Happened:
A blue-check author (a bigger deal at the time) with a lot of followers posted this:
Obviously, a very serious post demanding only the most serious of responses. Here was my comment on that post:
Did my comment include the sentence, “I will beat you to death”? Yes. Yes, it did. Was I threatening a fictional spider in a hypothetical situation? I rest my case.
Well, this wasn’t copacetic for the artist-formerly-known-as-twitter Block Bot. I appealed multiple times. I tried to cheat the system with other profiles. No go.
Anyway, I am less upset about it than I used to be. I’m not particularly into living in Elon’s world of delusion. Someone remind me: why did he change it from Twitter to X? Worst rebranding since ABC Family changed to Freeform.
Best Twitter takeaway not yet mentioned?
Check out the art on my Books page for Murders All the Way Down. An artist friend I made on Twitter created it specifically for me. They were inspired by what I shared about my novel.
I wish I could tag them, but not being on that social network anymore myself and them not being there anymore either (so far as I can tell), I don’t know how to give them credit. And I suck at finding people online. So if you read this and can help, would love ya for it!
Pertinent Info: Their handle was @I_Am_Missy with the username Not Quite Alice (Myssy). On the image of the art itself, it says Naomi Erin really small in the bottom right-hand corner.
(Oh, and also note I do have screenshots of when they sent it to me and gave me permission to use it. So I know I can use it, but it would still rock to give proper credit.)
What about you?
Have you been banned from Twitter? Left intentionally? Reach out! I’d love to hear your story.
